1916
K. Taniguchi Shoten founded by Koichi & Taniyo Taniguchi in Waiakea Town.
1939
Establishment of branch store in Downtown Hilo - 321 Keawe Street.
1946
Tsunami destroys first store in Waiakea Town.
1953
Downtown Hilo store converted to "supermarket" format.
1956
Downtown Hilo store undergoes major renovation.  Includes Hawai`i Island's first self-service meat department.
1959
Kailua-Kona store location opens.
1963
Kailua-Kona store renovated and expanded.
1966
Puainako store (located in KTA Center) opens.
1975
Kailua-Kona store relocated to the Kona Coast Shopping Center.
1977
Puainako store renovated and expanded into a "super store" format.  Includes first in-store bakery in the State.
1979
First supermarket in state to fully install UPC barcode scanners at all checkouts.
1984
Keauhou Kona store opens in the Keauhou Shopping Center.  First full-scale Deli deparment on Hawai`i Island.
1988
Puainako store renovated and expanded.  Expanded various "service" departments.
1989
Waimea store opens in the Waimea Center.
1990
Waikoloa Village Market opens in the Waikoloa Highlands Shopping Center.
1992
Kailua-Kona store renovated.
1994
Creation of Mountain Apple Brand®, a private label promoting products exclusively grown or manufactured in Hawai`i.
2000
Creation of Living in Paradise television show.  KTA's exclusive television coverage focusing on the many positives happening in Hawai`i Island communities.
2002
Waimea store renovated and expanded.
2004
Puainako store renovated.
2006
Waikoloa Village Market renovated and expanded.
2007
KTA Super Stores' website, www.ktasuperstores.com launched.
2007
Energy-producing photovoltaic (PV) systems commissioned at both Kailua-Kona and Waimea store locations.
