2009 Blanket of the Stars Winners

KTA Super Stores has announced the winners of its “Blanket of Stars” artwork contest, which was held in conjunction with its annual Kokua i Na Kula program. Big Island students were asked to create astronomy-inspired patchwork art in honor of the International Year of Astronomy.  More than 1,300 artwork entries were submitted and judged based on originality and creativity, artistic technique, overall impression, and appropriateness to theme.  The top nine artwork entries will be turned into quilt patches and transformed into a quilt by the Big Island chapter of Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to seriously ill or otherwise needy children through the gifts of new, handmade blankets. The final quilt will be donated to a child in need.
